House of Roasted Duck - QUACKLICIOUS!

Have you been wandering around in the heart of Bugis, looking for the best dining place? For me as a teenager, I do hang out a lot at Bugis especially but I can’t seem to find a good place to hang out and savour good food at the same time.

Located at Bugis Village, House of Roasted Duck promises to deliver the familiar taste of Hong Kong with its traditional and authentic Hong Kong Style Roasted Delights such as Signature Peking Duck, Peking Duck – 2 Styles, Crispy Roasted Pork, Soy Sauce Chicken and a range of Hong Kong delicacies such as Congee and Noodles together with an assortment of Cantonese Dim Sum and other side dishes!

House of Roasted Duck is helmed by Executive Chef Lau Wai Keung, a native Hong Konger with close to 40 years of local and overseas experience. I was amazed by their restaurant because before I walked in, the signboard was so attractive. I recalled whenever I drove along Victoria Street, I’ll always spot “House Of Roasted Duck” but I didn’t get a chance to pop in.

Decorated with an old-style abacus and bird cage, it gives off the traditional vibes of being in Hong Kong. The ambience was welcoming and harmonious.

Due to the popular demand for their roasted delights, House of Roasted Duck is proud to announce the opening of its second restaurant at Sultan Plaza!

Get to enjoy great value while you are indulging in the authentic flavours of Hong Kong at House of Roasted Duck, where its food are affordably priced!

Roasted Duck and Peking duck are perennial favourites in Hong Kong and both these delicious items are House of Roasted Duck’s signature dishes!!

Introducing their Peking Duck - 2 Styles ($52 for whole), where you can enjoy both the Peking Duck and Roasted Duck in one dish. For the Peking Duck, the crispy skin is sliced off perfectly into thin slices with just a bit of meat. And then, it’ll be wrapped with hand-made flour crepe and eaten together with their special dipping sauce! Trust me, you can taste the crispiness of the skin, along with the hand-made flour crepe that melts in your mouth with every single bite!

If you want to pamper yourself with roasted duck/peking duck from them, be sure to make your way down early as I heard that their duck delights are so popular among customers that a range of 30 to 40 roasted ducks are sold out on a daily basis!

Crispy Roasted Pork ($12 for regular)

When I was young, I’ll always order a packet of rice with Crispy Roasted Pork for myself after school. However, I was kinda surprised when I ate the version of House of Roasted Duck. Their Crispy Roasted Pork was so crunchy and tender and it tastes so good when eaten with their homemade mustard sauce! Moreover, the mustard sauce was super addictive and creamy as well!

Twin Combo Noodle (Soy Sauce Chicken + Barbecued Pork) ($7.80 for Soup version, $8.80 for Dry version)

The Soy Sauce Chicken ($36 for whole) is a quintessential Cantonese favourite. Braised using a special mix of herbs and spices together with premium stewed soy sauce to achieve the beautiful dark brown colour, the tender Soy Sauce Chicken must be paired with the special ginger scallion sauce to achieve the perfect taste.

Another popular Cantonese dish, the Barbecued Pork ($14 for regular) has a thick and sticky caramelised sauce that is different from the norm. Executed to perfection, the Barbecued Pork is not only juicy and tender, it’s savoury taste and delicious sauce will definitely have barbecued pork lovers craving for additional servings.

The noodles was springy and QQ. You can’t get this kind of noodle texture anywhere else in Singapore, except for House of Roasted Duck!

BEST-SELLER Congee with Abalone & Roasted Duck ($12.80 per bowl)

Are you a big fan of congee? By using premium calrose rice from Australia and fresh ingredients, their flavourful congee dishes are slow-cooked over a small fire for 3-4 hours to achieve its smooth and creamy texture. Containing abalone, Youtiao, roasted duck and spring onions, this is one of the most heavenly congee that I have ever tasted.

Shrimp Wanton Soup ($8.00)

Their Shrimp Wantons were so crunchy and chewy. After eating their wanton, they have officially raised the bar in terms of my standards for other wantons and I have not tasted any wantons with the same texture from other restaurants. Well, my expectations have increased by one ton. (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.)

Braised Beef Brisket ($16.00)

The braised beef brisket was superb. The braised sauce was rich in flavour and of course not to mention the beef. The beef brisket was juicy, tender and the sauce oozes out with every bite, which tastes heavenly.

Lychee Chicken Dumpling with Dried Bonito Flakes ($4.80)

Lychee + Chicken. Yes. With their lychee bits and chicken, this dish was definitely sweet but savoury at the same time. The moment you put it in your mouth, you can already taste the juice of the lychee, along with the chicken. I am not a big fan of lychee but surprisingly, the lychee taste wasn’t that strong! It was just to enhance the taste and maximise the flavour!

Talking about roasted duck, recently I’ve tried 5 unique ways to eat roasted duck which includes peanut butter, ice cream, chocolate protein shake, cloudy apple juice and last but not least.. RAW EGG.

 1)   Peanut butter always goes well with waffles and peanut but however, I took up a challenge and tried to be crazy by infusing peanut butter with roasted duck. The taste was unexpected because it actually goes well with it. The creaminess of the peanut butter was so good while the roasted duck tasted like bread?

2)   The raw egg was absolutely weird. The gooey feeling from the egg dipped with roasted duck. You can really taste the rawness of the egg. Trust me, I don’t think I will recommend this.

3)   The ice cream was really weird because it was “Red Velvet Ice Cream”and I am a person who cannot take vanilla because it contains milk. Imagine dipping your roasted duck with milk and eating it, how would you feel? Yes, that’s how I feel. The taste was horrific because the ice cream was ICE COLD and contains a lot of sugar. Usually, we pair our roasted duck with sauces that are savoury…

 4)   The chocolate protein shake went really really wrong. Imagine dipping your roasted duck with chocolate sauce. I can’t describe the taste at all because it was too disgusting. Since duck meat gives you protein, I’ve decided to use protein to give me extra protein and build up my muscles.

5)   Drenched with Cloudy Apple Juice, I was totally speechless about the aftertaste. The cloudy apple juice blended in with the duck meat and it gives off a weird and unbearable taste. Maybe I should try eating roasted chicken with orange juice!

Make a guess, which one was the most unbearable thing to go with?

Watch the video below:

After trying these 5 unique ways of eating Peking Duck, I think the peanut butter and waffles combination does it for me. But of course, nothing beats the traditional way of eating roasted duck.
